Three years on from the brutalist jungle wreckage of 'EP3', Silver Waves presents a taster of new material, mapping out an exciting new vision for the project. Assuming a compositional approach inspired by both the methodology of electroacoustic music and the direct communication of contemporary popular music forms, Silver Waves new work brings into focus the perceived material reality of sound and the imagined space it resides in, using energy summation and release as a guiding structural force, yet presents this methodology with careful consideration for the preservation of traditional musicality, succinct accessibility and unfiltered emotional potency. Maintaining the maximalist impact of previous releases, 'A-Biz' uses ubiquitous EDM tropes as a jump-off point, spraying out 808 snares and thumping bass hits across a four minute runtime of maniacally hissing electronics and in-flux sound-design, held from the brink of collapse by motorik synths and splintered arpeggios. 'Tunnelling' takes us deeper down the rabbit-hole using abrupt dynamic contrast as it's muse - stuttering, brittle structures give way to soaring melodies coaxed out of impenetrable beds of found sounds, whilst shifting tempos and stop-start dynamics lead us to it's euphoric, emotionally charged climax of clattering polyrhythms and warped vocals. A far cry from the quantised rigidity of much rhythmic electronic music, Silver Waves balances propulsive, visceral energy with a far-reaching exploration of depth and the sound, propelling listeners through an urgent and surreal journey.

Somewhat more subtle work from this duo than their celebrated noise-techno as AnD. Not that it's "melodic", as such, but it's certainly less heavy, and there's room for the rhythms and sonics to breathe. Really nice seeing this on Opal Tapes. Peter Hollo
